Vasyl Kosiv's monograph reveals the features of the depiction of Ukrainian identity in the graphic design of Soviet Ukraine and the Ukrainian diaspora from 1945 to 1989.
Based on the materials of the Ukrainian Soviet poster and covers of diaspora periodicals, archival documents, and interviews with the authors, the contexts of the appearance of the works are clarified, the semantics of the symbols used for the visual representation of Ukrainian identity are outlined, the means of creating images of Ukraine and Ukrainians are revealed, and the stylistics of the images and its connection with the design trends of the 20th century are analyzed.
