Skirmishes with trolls, goblins, dwarves, elves and giant spiders, a conversation with the dragon Smaug the Great, and a rather involuntary presence at the Battle of the Five Armies - these are just some of the adventures that Bilbo was destined to experience. But there were also lighter moments: sincere friendship, delicious treats, laughter and songs. Written by Professor Tolkien for his own children, "The Hobbit" met with enthusiastic approval immediately upon publication.
This amazing story, completely finished and accomplished, is also a preamble to The Lord of the Rings.
