"To Po" is an author's book by Pavel Makov about the city of the future. Started as a reflection on the futuristic hypothesis that in the coming decades, states will lose their defining role, giving way to large cities, the book "To Po" became an attempt to combine (contrast or reconcile) two different views on the space in which you live.
On the one hand, there is a master plan of the large city of Do Po, divided into 64 equal sections, none of which are repeated, and on the other, there are pages of a pocket notebook in which Makov spent several years sketching plans of real and imaginary cities with free-form development.
In the book, printed in intaglio, the city districts and drawings from the notebook are converted into vector images, located on different sides of the spread and intertwined with common paths. Finding themselves at a crossroads, the reader finds themselves in a borderland situation, which, according to Makov, actually defines Place — the presence between reality and dream. While only selected pages from Makov’s personal notebook were included in the book, the insert with a map of the fictional city of Do Po became an integral part of the author’s book of the same name.
