In Greek myths, Medusa is an innocent victim of violence who was transformed by the gods into a monster and banished to the edge of the world. Anyone who saw her was immediately turned to stone in horror. However, one can remain alive on the outside but become numb on the inside. Lyubko Dereš's novel "The Gaze of Medusa" is a multi-voiced story about the trauma of war, which petrifies the mind and heart, and about a journey to the distant shores of the unconscious, where that wounded part of us lives, which we ourselves have driven out of sight.
Autumn 2022, Ukraine is in a blackout. Darkness, sirens and shelling from Russia. And a call with bad news about Slavko, who has been at the front since the summer. A call that will change the lives of all of Slavko's friends, revealing hidden feelings step by step, confronting everyone with the darkness within: fear, pain, guilt, alienation.
"The Gaze of Medusa" is a multidimensional "novel with consciousness" about the search for light at a time when its only source remains ourselves.
