The book comprehensively refutes the myth of “Novorossiya”, which modern Russia has laid the foundation for its territorial claims to Ukraine.
It is shown that the most serious blow to it is inflicted by Moscow documents of the 17th–19th centuries. Based on them, it is found out that until the 19th century, Muscovy, oddly enough, considered the territory of modern Eastern and Southern Ukraine to be an organic component of the Ukrainian space.
The real assessment by Muscovites of the scale of the Zaporozhian heritage is expressed. The decisive influence of the achievements of the Zaporozhians on the further prospects of Eastern and Southern Ukraine in various areas is highlighted: the composition of the population, the network of settlements, the emergence and topography of cities, etc.
It is demonstrated that the empire built its strategies for transformations in the region on the unalternative use of the achievements of the Zaporozhian period and could not do without the broad involvement of both the Cossacks themselves and the population from other regions of Ukraine.
