In the book “Psychoanalysis and Psychosomatics. The Bodily Foundations of Psychodynamics”, Professor of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy at the Berlin School of Psychology, psychoanalyst (DPV / DGPT / IPA) Timo Stork explores the interrelationships between modern psychoanalysis and psychosomatics.
The work provides a well-founded illustration of why and how psychoanalytic practice and theory can be defined as psychosomatic, and also explores the path of formation of modern psychoanalytic psychosomatics.
The author develops the concept of corporeality to substantiate the close interaction between the psyche and the soma. The body itself remains the starting and central point for psychoanalysis, therefore psychosomatics can be treated not even as an adjacent discipline, but as an integral component of the psychoanalytic view of man.
In addition to basic theoretical concepts, the author addresses practical issues of psychoanalytic psychosomatics, in particular its effectiveness and principles of treatment in an inpatient setting.
