“Sustaining the Conversation” is a collection of essays about the changes that have occurred to us after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, about the transformations of artistic practices, and about reflections that arise in the environment of works of art during the war.
The authors’ texts are written as a dialogue with the exhibition “Our Years, Our Words, Our Losses, Our Searches, Our We” and sustain a walk through it, capturing important stories and observations about the interdependence of visual images and texts, about artistic communities, about the feelings that accompany artistic projects, about the role of individual people and their portraits, about empty spaces in the long history of Ukrainian art.
The publication also contains photo documentation of the exhibition, works by artists, selected fragments of discussions from the parallel program, and a conversation by the curatorial team after the exhibition.
This is the first book in a series of publications by Jam Factory Art Center and ist publishing, in partnership with the ZMIN Foundation.
