E. M. Forster wrote the novel Maurice in 1913–1914, but it was not published until 1971, after the author's death. The work is based on the story of a young Englishman from a respectable class, Maurice Hall, who, against the backdrop of strict Edwardian norms, gradually realizes his homosexuality.
The plot leads us through the life of the main character and reveals to the reader not only his private tragedy (same-sex love was condemned and punished in those days), but also Forster's broader humanistic message - the right of every person to happiness and love.
Well, the themes of self-acceptance, class barriers and the search for true intimacy have not lost their relevance to this day. And who knows, maybe the seemingly predictable end of the old story will surprise us after all
