Description

“Lviv: The End of Illusions” is a highly professional historical non-fiction, the first and unique in terms of reliability and the scope of the material covered, study of the pogrom of the Jewish population of Lviv, which was carried out by Polish soldiers in November 1918. For a century, Polish historiography – in particular for political reasons – described this tragic event as a series of ordinary criminal crimes committed in the chaos of war by Ukrainian and even Jewish bandits and deserters from the Austrian army.

Grzegorz Gauden challenges this interpretation and convincingly proves that the wave of Jewish pogroms with which Poland greeted its independence was not accidental at all.

Grzegorz Gauden was born in 1953 in Poznań. He is a lawyer and economist by education. In the early 1980s, he was a samizdat journalist and an activist of the independent trade union Solidarność in his hometown. For opposition activities, he was interned on December 13, 1981. In 1984–1992, he was in exile in Sweden. There, he organized and headed the Swedish Solidarity Support Committee.
