Danilo Romanovych, the first king of Rus, is one of the main figures in the history of Ukraine.
At the age of four, Danilo lost his father, Prince Roman Mstislavovich, and spent many years in exile. Thanks to his own talent, the support of his mother, and luck, the prince managed to return his father's inheritance and multiply it.
His path was four decades of hard struggle with both the sword and the word. Having overcome numerous internal and external enemies, Danilo established himself as one of the most influential rulers of Central and Eastern Europe.
The scale of his activities is evidenced by his relations with the Mongols, the Holy Roman Empire, the Nicaean Empire, the Papal See, and with the European states neighboring Rus. The pinnacle of his political career was his coronation at the end of 1253.
