The book “Grok Functional Programming” assumes that the reader has at least one year of commercial experience developing software using a popular object-oriented programming language, such as Java. The examples use Scala as the teaching language, but this is not a book for learning Scala. No prior knowledge of Scala or functional programming is required.
The book consists of three parts. The first part lays the foundation. We learn about the tools and techniques that are widely used in functional programming (FP).
In the second part of the book, we will use only immutable values and pure functions to solve application problems.
In the third part, we will implement a real-world application using functional methods that will use Wikidata as a data source. In this example, we will demonstrate everything we have learned in the previous parts. The book concludes with a final set of exercises to consolidate the acquired knowledge of functional programming.
