The principle of the grid system presented in this book was developed and began to be used in Switzerland after the Second World War. The first examples of printed products designed using a grid appeared in the second half of the 1940s. This new trend was characterized by the arrangement of text and illustrations according to clear principles, uniformity in the design of all pages, and objectivity in the presentation of the material.
In the classic work of Josef Müller-Brockmann (first published in 1981), the main issues of constructing and using a grid and the principles of developing grid systems are highlighted on real typographic examples.
