Gold and silver jewelry from Ukraine - Rus

Through the efforts of the Institute of Collecting, another album was released in the series "Ukrainian Folk Art" - "Gold and Silver Jewelry of Ukraine-Rus" (director - T. Lozynsky).

The jewelry art of Rus is one of the essential components of world artistic culture. It was based on its own, centuries-old traditions of local ornamentation and subject compositions and absorbed not only Slavic roots, but also motifs and influences of Byzantine, Arab, Scandinavian and many other artistic traditions. The gold and silver products of ancient Russian masters were famous not only in their own state, but also far beyond its borders.

The jewelry business of Rus reached a high European level, but its further development was interrupted by the Mongol invasion. The artistic heritage of Rus became the basis on which the jewelry traditions of later cultural associations that arose on its territory were formed.

The editors selected the best items for the album from state museums (National Museum of the History of Ukraine, Lviv Historical Museum) and private collections.
