"The Garden" opens a new book series about Ukrainian art "You've Seen It Before" from ist publishing. The publication presents familiar images of prominent works of Ukrainian art from different periods and reveals dozens of dimensions of the garden, which has fascinated artists for centuries.
In the book, we will see the gardener Kazimir Malevich and the one who eats the fruits in Maria Prymachenko; we will immerse ourselves in the biblical plot of the Fall and the ornament of St. Sophia of Kiev; we will learn what Taras Shevchenko's gardens looked like not only in his poetry, we will enter the imaginary floral space of Kateryna Bilokur and we will walk along the map of one of the most prominent contemporary artists - Pavel Makov, who has been exploring the theme of the garden in his practice for many years.
Through more than 50 works included in the book, readers are invited to go through the unfolding of the garden metaphor: from the image of paradise to the idea of the country as a garden where everyone is able to care for their own. After all, a garden is a place of dreams, visions, and renewal. At the same time, it is a space of change, withering, and decay.
