There are topics that are not spoken about out loud. There are things that are not worth mentioning, at least in noble society, on which social morality has imposed an unquestionable taboo. These include, among other things, the products of the vital activity of living beings, simply put, shit.

But this is not a taboo for Florian Werner, who has undertaken to examine a delicate topic from the perspective of the history of the development of human culture, which, in his opinion, is based on… shit. Not only in the sense that our cities, as the embodiment of modern civilization, rise above gigantic sewer networks. Not only because our metabolism, and with it our life, would be impossible without the excretion of excrement. But because it is only through separation from shit that we know what culture is at all.

Without shadow there is no light, without dirt there is no cleanliness. We need a certain uncultured opposite in order to be able to realize ourselves as civilized beings. We need shit in order to, having removed it, establish ourselves in our culture. Shit is indispensable for our self-understanding as modern people. “We are born between feces and urine,” said Blessed Augustine, so it is at this moment that our relationship with dark matter begins.
