The first artbook by artist and illustrator Sergiy Maidukov, KYIV by Sergiy Maidukov, is a visual story about Kyiv, built on more than 50 color illustrations and black-and-white sketches created by the author during 2018-2021.
Sergiy Maidukov is the main character who feels the city rush and the bizarre beauty of everyday life, the colors and moods of the streets. KYIV by Sergiy Maidukov is a book by an artist for whom Kyiv was not his native city, but gradually became one. And although the title of the artbook hints that it will be about locations, buildings and interiors, this is not a guidebook, but a disassembled mosaic that the reader will reassemble for himself personally.
Among the illustrations you will recognize: "Flying Saucer" and the "Salyut" hotel, elevators and the port area near the Dnieper, the Theater on Podil and Batkivshchyna-Mata, the interiors of the House of Cinema and the Rytny Market, Shulyavka and Dorogozhychi.
The publication includes a foreword by journalist Oleksiy Tarasov, as well as his conversation with Serhiy Maydukov. All texts in the artbook are written in two languages: Ukrainian and English.
The book won the Joseph Binder Award 2022 international design and illustration competition in the "Book Illustration" category
In 2021, the artbook was shortlisted for the All-Ukrainian competition "Best Book Design 2021"
